DOWN IN THE MOUTH

DOWN IN THE MOUTH

SHE CRIED
I  AM REALLY TIRED OF COMING TO THIS HOSPITAL
THE DRUGS MAKE ME WEAK AND SLEEPY
MY CLASS MATES LAUGH AT ME BECAUSE OF THE WAY I DOZE OFF IN CLASS
I TRY HARD TO BE AWAKE YOU KNOW, BUT THE DRUGS
THE DRUGS I TAKE ARE TOO MANY AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DROWSINESS
THE DOCTOR SAID I SHOULD TAKE A LOT OF WATER SO AS TO AID MY JOINTS
MY ROOM MATES SCOFF AT ME TOO BECAUSE I WET THE BED EVERY NIGHT.

MY THIGHS, WILL THEY EVER BE FAT?
MY PALE EYES WORRIES ME, WILL IT EVER BE NORMAL AGAIN?
I LOVE THE WAY YOUR CLOTHES LOOKS ON YOU
MINE WOULD JUST NEVER FIT ME THIS WAY
THERE IS A LOT TO HIDE UNDER MY CLOTHES
MY BELLY, MY CHEST AND MY ANKLES.

YOU SEE ALL THE SCARS ON MY SKIN?
THEY ARE FROM THE INJECTIONS AND DRIPS I HAVE BEEN TAKING
THE INJECTIONS DON’T HURT ANYMORE, THE PILLS HURT MORE
I HEARD GOD DIDN’T DO THIS TO ME BUT MUM AND DAD
DO THEY HATE ME THAT MUCH TO BRING ME THIS AGONY?
I CAN NOT PLAY HIDE AND SEEK WITH MY FRIENDS, THEY CALL ME FEEBLE.

IS THIS MY LIFE OR ANOTHER’S?
THE THOUGHT THAT I WILL BE NO MORE VERY SOON MAKES ME SCARED
I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW LONG I WILL BE HERE ALONE
DAD IS IN HIS GRAVE NOW AND MUM IS TIRED OF TAKING CARE OF ME
THAT IS WHY THEY KEPT ME HERE WITH YOU
CAN YOU, WILL YOU BE MY GUARDIAN?
THIS SICKLE CELL IS TAKING MY LIFE.
AS STREAMING TEARS ROLLED DOWN MY CHEEK
I GAVE HER A WARM HUG AND WHISPERED INTO HER EARS
DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?

SAVED BY A PEELER

SAVED BY A PEELER

Don’t treat me this way
What do you want me to say?
Please doctor, could you make me disappear?
I am only an innocent little child
Can you not see that I am hurt too?

He knew he was stronger, he was using that
I begged him to stop as I appealed to his conscience
His desires just controlled him
All I did was protect me
The tears in my eyes and the words from my mouth couldn’t stop him

I struggled for help and reached for the peeler
Hoping it would scare him away
It just didn’t, he then put apart my legs
Thus, I hurriedly thrust the peeler in his neck where it fitted perfectly
That little sharp silver steel stopped him, he then let go

Now they say I have ended his life
Don’t put me through this trauma
He was supposed to take care of me
He rather chose to defile me
So the peeler made him kick the bucket

You all sit here and judge me
What if I let him and then ended my life afterwards
What then will you call him if he had lived?
Please I only tried to escape
From the man with a monster shape
The peeler only stopped the rape

WHAT HAPPENED

What happened?

To our giggles

To our tears

To our hugs

Oh your kiss, they did wonders to my cells

WHAT HAPPENED?

Our friendship

Our stories

Our curdles

Our stroll

Oh my pen, there is going to be a long walk on this paper

Oh my ink , there is enough to flow, until I know

WHAT HAPPENED?

You left me, didn’t you care

You played me, didn’t you know

You lied to me, didn’t you listen

You ruined my heart, didn’t you see

You took your love by force

Now I am at your door

I want to know, please tell me

WHAT HAPPENED?

REMIND ME

 REMIND ME!

Remind me to tell you what I saw
As I walked the streets in pains
As I saw children crying in hunger
Mothers hitting car glasses for help
As the drivers of these cars paid no attention
Policemen arresting innocent people
Just ask me what I saw
I shall tell you all without reservations
I will tell you how heavy my heart is
For the unpaid workers
Who moved around in peaceful protest
How they were beaten and humiliated
These things that I saw,
Please remind me to tell you
I shall narrate to you the expressions and reactions of these sad people I passed by
Even in my pain, I felt theirs.

FADING HOPE

FADING HOPE

I LAY ON MY BED IN PAINS
I TRY TO GET UP BUT THE PAIN HITS ME HARD
FINALLY I RISE ON MY FEET
IT THEN FEELS LIKE IT HAS DISAPPEARED
I TAKE A STEP AND THEN TWO
SO I WORE A SIGH OF RELIEF
I TAKE THE THIRD AND THEN THE FOURTH STEP
THE PAIN PRESSES ME DOWN TO THE GROUND
PLEASE GOD! MAKE THIS PAIN GO AWAY
I NEED A MEDIC
SOMEONE PLEASE CALL A MEDIC
IS ANYBODY THERE?
I AM HERE ALL ALONE
A BIRD PETCHES ON MY WINDOW
HEY LITTLE BIRDY, I CRIED
SOUND THE ALARM, TELL SOMEONE I AM DOWN
I DON’T WANT TO DIE OF THIS PAIN IN MY CHEST
THE BIRD FLEES AND I AWAIT HELP
 HOPEFUL

SENTENCED BY LOVE

SENTENCED BY LOVE

THIS BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT DAY
I SAT ON THE FENCE WITH MY FRIEND
WHERE WE LAUGHED, SHARED
CONVERSED AND UNBURDENED OUR HEARTS
IN LOVE WE Lived OUR LIVES
O! HAPPINESS
I THOUGHT HE Loved AS I Loved
THEN I TURNED MY BACK
HE Scorned AND Stabbed ME IN THE BACK
AS I SLOWLY Faded AWAY
I WANTED JUST A GLIMPSE OF HIS EYES
BUT ALL I SAW WAS HATE AND MOCKERY
BETRAYAL
